Kinda Austin oriented…Folks from Dallas would understand.
Well, Trainwreck just did our first west Texas show at the Blue light in Lubbock. We opened for Harris and Ryden. I think it went over really well. Nobody seemed to buy any CDs, but they were not buying any product from H&R neither. People were dancing. I never really thought our stuff as dance music, but it seemed to work. I mean, “Only Dancing” seems like one. Mostly, folks dont dance much at the places in Dallas where we play.
Anyway, congrats to all the grads from Tech, and I hope y’all have us back.
Had to come up with a bio/blurb for Boys Named Sue. I think this did the trick.
> As the self proclaimed “Best Band Ever”, the Boys
> Named Sue always promises to deliver 100% crap-free
> country. Labled as East Dallas Hank-Core or sometimes
> Jukebox-Willie-Billy, these boys put on a
> performance that will make young folks holler and old
> folks dance.
>
> The Boys Named Sue consists of members of Slick57, The
> Harmonaires, Trainwreck and Deadman and consistantly
> disprove the old saying that “supergroups rarely are”.
>
> From the first Sue-Shot to the last fade-out ending,
> these expert Musicologists always provides lively
> renditions of old classics, finely honed originals and
> interesting perspectives on modern hits.
>
> With a cult following in Coleman, Texas not unlike
> Jerry Lewis in France and David Hasslehoff in Germany,
> the BNS are well on the way to world domination. Next
> Stop, Pine Mills.
Caitlin Cary is number 2 on the Freeform American Roots Chart for March. It is a wonderful album. She was the fiddle player for the band Whiskeytown before it ceased to exist. Oh well. Good things come and go. If they stay around too long, they stagnate, however Whiskeytown had another album or two to go before that could have happened. Was it Ryans fault or the record people? Who knows, both parties are pricks.
Ryan Adams did have one redeeming moment in my eyes. The only time I ever met him was at SXSW-2001. We met him in line at the Bloodshot show. JD shoved his cell phone in Ryans face and asked him to say hi to his ex-girlfriend. Ryan was cool about it. That was nice.
Anyway, back to the CD.
At first, I was never really impressed by her playing. Technically (at least what was captured in the studio) it was not super impressive, but style wise it was great. (Im not really super technical myself…Style and soul are more important. I have lifted a few chops from her works).
I never really found out how much off a hand she hand in the Whiskeytown songs, but her solo album is great. I have an incredible respect for her as an artist.
William Smith did a review on Rockzilla.
