Um…what about Bela Fleck?
And Alabama had Mountain Music which was
pretty much a pop song.
Dixieland was the Rock and roll of its day.
It had banjo
Bluegrass was the Rock and roll of its day
It had banjo
Folk music in the 50s was the rock of its day
It had banjo
Dont forget Steve Martin.
Banjo is an instrument that has VERY strong roots and any american music.
Its when you throw in something completely out of the cultural norm that there is an influence.
Example:
The Beatles can be mostly credited for introducing the Sitar to the pop culture/psychedelia of the 60s. (not the drums, guitar or even pot for that matter)
I would love to see what our view of psychedelia would have been if the Beatles had just gone to Peru!
